Why the Fuss About Water?

The harmattan season is here. Just as the Northeast trade winds blow tirelessly across the country, so is our body always at work. Imagine waiting for your car tank to get completely empty before refilling. The car will come to a sudden halt, and it will take a long time to find a gas station and valuable time will be wasted. The body is no different. You do not have to feel thirsty before drinking water.

The body needs water just it needs food. Also have you ever wondered why your skin and lips looks so dry and your hair won’t stop itching?

Here are some benefits of drinking water,

Regulates body temperature

Water acts as a thermoregulator, regulating the overall body temperature by helping release heat. When the body gets too hot, water gets lost through sweat. You do not want your body competing with the weather over who is hotter.

Protects your heart

When we are hydrated our heart easily pumps blood to all parts of the body.

Boosts your brain

Water carries nutrients to the brain, clears away toxins and waste that disrupts proper functioning of our brain.

Prevents constipation

Having difficulty emptying your bowels? Try taking water. Taking lots of water softens stool and makes it easier to pass.

Moistens tissues in the body

Water moistens tissues in our eyes, nose, mouth and all parts of the body. Is your mouth or throat feeling dry? Water is the answer!

Above all, having enough water in your body keeps your body fluids level in good quantity – keeping you refreshed and revitalized.

During this period, it is advisable to carry a bottle of water along wherever you go.
If you are not taking your recommended 8 cups of water daily, we are giving you reasons why you should start. Do your body some good!
